One Place, Every Resource
The Student Success District (the District) at IU Indianapolis will unify tutoring centers currently scattered across campus — including writing, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and public speaking — into one central location. Coalescing these resources will improve student awareness and access, increase usage, and build a community around academic support, with a special focus on foundational coursework that sets students up for success throughout their academic journey.
Built on existing student traffic between University Library and Taylor Hall, the District will offer a one-stop shop for academic support, revitalized with upgraded furnishings, cross-trained staff, lendable technology, and a shared scheduling tool for seamless access to all services. Research shows that negative perceptions of help-seeking are the most prevalent barrier to resource center use, so the District will prioritize professional development, streamlined service access, and expanded hours and modalities. Desirable additions such as a coffee shop and improved food options would further draw students to campus and encourage in-person learning.
Built for Student Success — and Measured by It
Success will be measured by increased faculty referrals, greater resource usage among undergraduates, improved course completion rates in foundational subjects, and positive student survey results reflecting stronger academic self-efficacy, reduced stigma around help-seeking, and a greater sense of belonging — particularly among commuter students.
Support for the District is also student-driven. IU Indianapolis Undergraduate Student Government President Anish Bhawal noted that peer tutoring has been named a top priority for 2025–26, citing its impact on academic performance, community building, and time spent on campus. Expanding access to academic support is a vital step toward improving grades, increasing graduation rates, and enriching campus life.
