2008 marks the 400th anniversary of the first arrival of Germans in the New World at Jamestown, Virginia. Special events will be held in conjunction with the conference in Colonial Williamsburg.

Paper topics should address the purpose of the Society for German-American Studies to study the history, language, literature and culture of the German element in North America, including the immigrants and their descendants from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other German-speaking areas of Europe.

Special Panels Anticipated:

Germans in Virginia including West Virginia

German Immigration to the New World

Germans in the Revolutionary War

Germans in the Civil War

German dialects in the New World

German contributions to America
