Max Kade German-American Center Weihnachtslieder / Christmas Carols

The Latin carol Adeste Fideles is frequently described "The Portuguese Hymn." This is because a performance in the chapel of the Portuguese embassy in London in 1795. In fact, it was written by John Francis Wade, a Catholic layman who fled religious persecution in England, found work copying plainchant at the Dominical college at Bornhem, Flanders.
