September 1861 elections of company officers
at Indianapolis and the company designations


 

First Company; Company A -- Known as the Ft. Wayne Company or the Turner Company. Election of officers took place 9-19-1861: Captain Francis Erdelmeyer; First Lieutenant William G. Mank; Second Lieutenant Adolph Metzner.

Second Company; Company B -- Known as the Madison Company. Election of officers took place 9-19-1861: Captain Jacob Glass; First Lieutenant William Urlan; Second Lieutenant Frederick Trenk.

Third Company; Company C -- Known as the Aurora Company. Election of officers took place 9-19-1861: Captain John L. Geigolt; First Lieutenant Max Sachs; Second Lieutenant Henry Bellman.

Fourth Company; Company D -- Known as the Lawrenceburg Company. Election of officers took place 9-19-1861: Captain John Schwartz; First Lieutenant Frank Knorr; Second Lieutenant Emanuel Eller.

Fifth Company; Company E -- Known as the Terre Haute Company. Election of officers took place 9-20-1861: Captain Philip H. Monninger; First Lieutenant Edward John; Second Lieutenant Johann Gottfried Apel.

Sixth Company; Company F -- Known as the Cincinnati Company. Election of officers took place 9-20-1861: Captain Frederick August Muller; First Lieutenant Peter Cappell; Second Lieutenant William Borck.

Seventh Company; Company G -- Known as the Lafayette Company. Election of officers took place 9-24-1861: Captain Welschbillig; First Lieutenant William Bruckner; Second Lieutenant Louis Kummel.

Eighth Company; Company H -- Known as the New Albany Company. Election of officers took place 9-20-1861: Captain Franz Kodalle; First Lieutenant Nathan Levy; Second Lieutenant Stephen Schultz.

Ninth Company; Company I -- Election of officers was not officially completed until 11-4-1861 while at Camp Nevin. Elected officers were not commissioned until 1862 with backdate to 9-1861: Captain William Seivers; First Lieutenant Joseph Peitzuch; Second Lieutenant Jacob Rauft. Forty men of this company comprised the pontoniers.

Tenth Company; Company K -- Known as the Evansville Company. Election of officers took place 9-19-1861: Captain Andreas Winter; First Lieutenant Isidore Esslinger; Second Lieutenant John D. Ritter.
