APPENDIX 19-D (Solutions)
GOOD AND BAD JOBS FOR IMMIGRANTS FROM GERMANY IN 1850

Many sources mark the beginning of German immigration to the 1693 founding of Germantown in Pennsylvania, though there is ome evidence of earlier German immigrants (see Appendix 19-J). German immigration has been continuous ever since, but it peaked for the first time in the middle of the 19th century. For this reason, 1850 was chosen for the activity.
