Morris-Butler House photograph, 1974In 1864 architect Diedrich Bohlen, a native of the kingdom of Hanover, designed this Second Empire-style house for Indianapolis businessman John D. Morris. Attorney Noble Chase Butler acquired the house in 1881. Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana purchased it in 1964 and opened it as the Morris-Butler House Museum in 1969. The house is one of several buildings designed by Bohlen still in existence in the city; others include St. John Catholic Church, Roberts Park United Methodist Church, and the Crown Hill Cemetery Chapel.
