Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894), who grew up in England as a sickly child, constantly sought
other climates more beneficial to his health. These travels, which took him to many exotic locales, including the
South Seas, greatly influenced his writings. Hence, we have his classic children's novels full of adventure and
mayhem in distant lands. These editions are illustrated by watercolorist N.C. Wyeth (1882-1945), one of the most prestigious illustrators of the early twentieth century. A student of Howard Pyle, Wyeth's work comes to life through skillful use of color and lighting. His paintings for Treasure Island are considered to be among his finest. |
