a) EXPO 2000 Theme Park in Hannover (9-18 h), or
b) EXPO Maritime Project in Wilhelmshaven (9-18 h) via Weser-ferry, includes visit of German-American Friendship Day

In order to make the meeting as interesting as possible for participants, to attract additional guests from abroad and to give interested citizens from Bremerhaven, Bremen and surrounding areas the opportunity to take part in the SGAS Year 2000 Symposium and get in touch with Americans a great number of events are offered in addition to the conference program proper.

a) In collaboration with the Bremen Tourist Authority the local Tourist Board will provide participants, guests and visitors with all kinds of information on where to go? how to get there? what to do? - on the maritime as well as the historical museums of Bremerhaven and Bremen; theaters, blues pubs and the musical; trips on the river etc. pp. Thus guests will be assisted to go out on their own an discover a great variety of cultural and tourist attractions Bremerhaven and Bremen have to offer.

Visitors to the sea city of Bremerhaven can also enjoy themselves during a special 'American Week' in the city center organized by the Tourist Board.

b) A rich program will be organized for participants and citizens in the evenings, ranging from the presentation of a film chronicle of Bremen-Bremerhaven and a new book on migrations in the Bremen-Bremerhaven region to a barbecue on the bank of the river Weser or a special German-American church service at the 'statue of the emigrants'. Friday night, June 16 will certainly be a highlight when symposium participants and visitors as well as Bremerhaven's citizens will be entertained by traditional dances, jugglers and music performed by drums and fifes, a navy choir and a folk group singing emigrants' songs.

c) A number of exhibitions will inform participants, visitors and the people of Bremerhaven and Bremen about various facets of German-American immigration history. Aside from the exhibitions listed below Bremerhaven's Historical Museum will present 'Aufbruch in die Fremde / Fame, Fortune and Sweet Liberty'.
