VONNEGUT & BOHNBernard Vonnegut and Arthur Bohn formed a partnership as architects [in 1888]. These men, both of the German element, designed some of the well-known buildings of the city. Among the more important edifices designed by Vonnegut & Bohn are the Herron Art Institute, the Jewish Temple, Shortridge High School, and The German House [also called Das Deutsche Haus], all of Indianapolis; the Federal Building in Vincennes; and the Students' Building at Indiana University, Bloomington. Vonnegut's son, Kurt, followed his father's footsteps. Indiana Bell Telephone buildings throughout the state bear his trademark, and so did the Hook's Drug Stores before World War II. |
