ADOLF SCHERRERMost notable among the Swiss-Germans was Adolf Scherrer, who was appointed to direct the construction of the State Capitol after the death of architect Edwin May. Scherrer left his imprint on the Capitol also by certain design changes with closer adherence to Greco-Roman style. Among some of the important Scherrer buildings are the Maennerchor Hall, City Hospital, and the Elks Club building. . . . [In 1913 Scherrer designed a new home for the Independent Turnverein (later known as the Hoosier Athletic Club) at 902 N. Meridian. The building became known as the Marott Building after it was purchased by Indianapolis businessman George Marott in 1943.] The structure is now an apartment building. |
