Geburtstagfest fur Goethe program, 1899German immigrants to the United States cherished and celebrated their cultural heritage. An example of this was the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, held on August 28, 1899, at Das Deutsche Haus. The Socialer Turnverein, Der Deutsche Klub, and the Musikverein joined forces to present a program that featured the performances of German music, readings of Goethe's poetry, and speeches in both German and English.
