James McCabe: A Tour Around the World by General Grant (1879)

Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885), a man who disliked the thought of a military career, became Commander of the U.S. Army during the Civil War and the second youngest man ever to be elected President. After serving two terms in office, Grant re-entered private life in 1877 and quickly embarked upon a world tour. The trip became very popular in the media; news accounts and magazine articles covered nearly every step he took. James McCabe, a popular writer of the time, collected these reports as well as letters written by Grant while on his journey and produced this well-received subscription release.
