Participants learned strategies to enrich the elementary curriculum
by incorporating art into the regular classroom instruction
and developing a partnership with the media center. Through
hands-on experiences, teachers discovered art resources and
art databases on the Internet and learned how to integrate technology
through utilization of various media. Teacher teams designed
student-center projects to use in their classrooms.
Curriculum Writing Opportunity
Educators had the opportunity to design instructional
plans as part of the K-12 Community Project. Each plan that
was developed according to workshop criteria was placed on the
Project Web site and Project CD-Rom which was distributed to
schools throughout Indiana. Each team member was paid $100 for
their developed instructional plan.
Eligibility
The workshop was designed for team teachers in kindergarten
through sixth grade. No special technology skills were required.
Beginners were welcome.
Graduate Credit
Three graduate credit hours and CRUs were available to those
who in need of teacher re-licensing. Grades were given at the
end of the fall semester in December.
Workshop Instructors
Diana Rennels, Media Specialist, Brown Elementary, Brownsburg,
Indiana and Jill Taylor, Third Grade Teacher, Brown Elementary,
Brownsburg, Indiana were instructors for this workshop. Student
and parent guest speakers talked about their experiences integrating
art throughout the curriculum in the media center and the classroom.
