Open Access Week - October 22 - 26, 2018
IUPUI and University Library are Open Access champions all year. Each year, thousands of articles published by IUPUI scholars are made publicly available through our participation in the Open Access Policy and the Open Access Fund. We also have more than a dozen open access journals published using the Open Journal System and supported by University Library. More to come in our annual Open Access @ IUPUI infographic!
This year, during Open Access Week, we want to celebrate the successes of the past year and keep striving to make more content open and reusable.
All, come find us in the Campus Center on Wednesday, October 24 between 1:00pm and 5:00pm. We will have some fun activities to earn some incredible OA swag (buttons, stickers, & more)!
Students, open access truly has the biggest impact on you. We want to hear from you! Join the discussion in Democracy Plaza during Open Access Week.
Faculty, we are challenging you to increase the impact of your work by making it more open and accessible. We will be putting out weekly Impact Challenges to help you make your Open Access works more discoverable and reusable. You’ll also get some tips on how to gather metrics and other evidence to make your case for promotion and tenure or that next grant! You can find these posts throughout the month of October at http://library.indianapolis.iu.edu/digitalscholarship/blog.
In the Library, we will be playing the newly released Paywall: The Business of Scholarship movie, which dives academic publishing. Not sure why you should care? For-profit academic publishers receive $25.2 billion from academic institutions, many of which are public universities. The profit margin of the largest publisher, Elsevier-Reed, is 35-40%, which is greater than that of Apple, Facebook, and Google. Best of all, this movie is free to watch and has an open copyright license (CC-BY 4.0)!
