Library Priorities

IU INDIANAPOLIS UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES AND 'THE LIBRARY'

The IU Indianapolis University Libraries encompass University Library, the campus’s main library, and the Herron Art Library, physically located within, and primarily serving, the Herron School of Art + Design.

When the term 'the Library' is utilized within this page, it encompasses the suite of expertise, services, facilities, technology, and resources provided by library staff and faculty, and the physical and virtual spaces of the IU Indianapolis University Libraries.

PRIORITY 1 - CHAMPION STUDENT SUCCESS

The Library empowers all students, facilitating their discovery, sense-making, and ethical and effective use of information.

  • P1, PI1 Lead the integration of information literacy across the student learning experience.
  • P1, PI2 Contribute to student recruitment, retention, time to degree, academic success, career readiness, and lifelong learning.

PRIORITY 2 - PARTNER IN KNOWLEDGE CREATION

The Library is recognized as core IU Indianapolis research infrastructure, powering the life cycle of faculty, staff, and student research and creative pursuits.

  • P2, PI1 Be a trusted research gateway where all IU Indianapolis researchers can partner with experts in knowledge discovery, creation, sharing, and impact measuring
  • P2, PI2 Embrace and champion IU Indianapolis’s commitment to research with, and for the benefit of, the community.

PRIORITY 3 - DEVELOP AND CURATE RESOURCES AND COLLECTIONS

 The Library creates and provides access to content that enhances IU Indianapolis' strengths and supports its education, R1 research, and community-engaged mission.

P3 Performance indicators

  • P3, PI1 Thoughtfully steward resources, utilizing data-informed purchasing models that sustain access to resources that support learning, research, and teaching needed today while also investing in the future of scholarly communication.
  • P3, PI2 Develop and enrich unique and diverse collections related to the education and research priorities of the campus and the distinct collecting areas of the Library.

PRIORITY 4 - PROMOTE OPEN KNOWLEDGE

The Library engages in collaborative, open efforts that promote a sustainable and equitable scholarly communication environment.

  • P4, PI1 Make IU Indianapolis-affiliated research, creative works, and other scholarly products available and discoverable to the broader community through open initiatives, education, and outreach.
