University Library welcomed Jackie Huddle and the new Art + Design Library at the Herron Art Library. Below, Jackie shares a little bit about herself and her new position.

What is your role at University Library?

I am the Art + Design Librarian at the Herron Art Library. My job duties include overseeing services and collections at the library, providing leadership to library staff, and outreach to Herron faculty, students, and our campus community.

Where are you from and where did you go to school?

I’m from the southside of Chicago. I went to Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois for my undergraduate studies and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois for graduate school.

What did you do before joining the library?

Previously, I worked at Indiana University-Bloomington Libraries as the Visual Literacy and Resources Librarian for five years.

What are your hobbies and what do you do for fun?

I love reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and remodeling vintage/antique furniture.

If there was one tip you would share with researchers and/or readers about open access, what would it be?

I’m not sure if this is a tip but I would recommend that researchers try to publish open access whenever possible. I think it helps with equity of resources, and it provides a wider readership base. I would also say that people should educate themselves about open access through the library! We have incredible librarians and resources for folks who are interested in learning more.

What is the best way to get in touch if a patron needs information about the Herron Art Library?

The best way to get in touch with us is through email. We have an incredible staff at the library who are incredibly resourceful. I always encourage people to stop by as well! I’m in the library every day and love to meet with people in person when possible.
