What is your role at University Library?
HR Generalist
Where are you from and where did you go to school?
I’m originally from Kansas City, MO but moved to Indiana to attend Ball State University in 2013.
What did you do before joining the library?
Prior to joining the Library/HR teams at IU – Indianapolis, I spend 5 years as part of the HR Team at a non-profit health center in Muncie, IN that provides medical and behavioral health services to uninsured and underinsured individuals. Prior to that, I helped manage the Front of House operations at Muncie Civic Theatre – a beautiful, historic non-profit community theatre in Downtown Muncie.
What are your hobbies and what do you do for fun?
My hobbies include collecting and playing board games with my spouse, attending theatre performances, and playing the New York Times Games. I am an avid coffee drinker and make a point to visit local coffee shops whenever I’m in a new city. I also spend lots of time with our cats, Winston and Fiona, and our chihuahua, Mabel.
What is important to you about libraries?
Libraries are places for connection. Connection to stories that can take you to new and unknown places. Connection to information and community resources that help people live better lives. The literal connection to the internet and computers that have become a necessity for navigating our world. Connection to each other through events, workshops, meeting spaces, and so much more. Libraries are important to me because they provide spaces and resources for people and communities to connect.
