Off-Campus Access to Resources (EZProxy)
IU Indianapolis Libraries pay for full text access to many databases, journals, and other online resources. While off-campus, IU Indianapolis faculty, students, and staff can access these library resources through a service called EZProxy. EZProxy is a snippet of code IU Indianapolis Libraries has added to the URLs of resources to create a permalink. Using an IU Indianapolis-specific permalink triggers authentication either through directing you to log in through IU Login, or by recognizing that you're using an IU VPN (learn more about split tunneling and the changes in how you can access library resources off campus). Once you've authenticated with IU, you can access library-subscribed full text resources off campus.
To utilize EZProxy, you must access online resources from the library website or IUCAT, the library catalog. Why? Only these resource URLs have IU Indianapolis permalinks appended to them. The code snippet that makes up an IU Indianapolis permalink looks like this:
https://library.indianapolis.iu.edu/cgi-bin/proxy.pl?url=
If you search for articles and journals off campus using a regular search engine, like Google, you will be asked to pay for full text access by databases like PubMed, JSTOR, and Nexis Uni. That is because searching this way does not utilize our EZProxy service. Only by starting on the library website can you be assured full text access to library-subscribed resources.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar isn't a database that IU Indianapolis subscribes to but it is possible to search and access library-subscribed online resources from Google Scholar IF you are properly authenticated. Check out our DIY Library Guide to learn how.
